50 YEARS ON THE RUN

Feb 9, 2024

Paul McCartney’s fifth post-Beatles album, released in December 1973, proved once and for all that the driving force behind the world’s greatest band was still flying high.

Band On The Run was created in remarkable circumstances. Firstly, Wings band members Denny Sewell and Henry McCullough quit just days before the planned trip to Lagos to record the album.

Paul and Linda, along with Denny Laine, carried on without them, but then within a few days of arriving in the Nigerian capital they were robbed at knifepoint.

Despite these setbacks they created a brilliant album, with Paul playing guitar, bass, piano and drums.

To celebrate the 50th anniversary of Band On The Run, albeit a couple of months late, Sir Paul has released a remastered edition, produced by Giles Martin, which includes an ‘underdubbed’ version.

We’re playing a track from the 50th anniversary edition of Band On The Run every hour on our dedicated Macca station.
