When you’re a 77 year old Country & Western superstar it might seem a big step to record your first Rock album, but that is exactly what Dolly Parton has done with the release of Rockstar.
The move into a new genre came about because Dolly was put forward for inauguration into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame. Initially she resisted because she considered herself to be “too country”, but eventually changed her mind and was inducted in 2022.
This got her thinking and she decided that if she was going to be honoured as a rock icon, then she’d better prove her worth. And that is exactly what she has done, with a little help from her friends.
The list of those friends and collaborators reads like a who’s who of rock music and includes (but is not limited to) Elton John, Steven Tyler of Aerosmith, Peter Frampton, Pink, Sheryl Crow, John Fogerty of Creedence Clearwater Revival and the surviving Beatles, Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr.
So has Dolly made the transition? We think so, but you can make your own mind up as we play a track from Rockstar every hour right here on our dedicated station.
