TEXAS HAVE BEEN TO ALABAMA

Apr 12, 2024

When Texas made their TV debut in 1989 singer Sharleen Spiteri was a guitar-slinging rocker whose drew inspiration from Chrissie Hynde’s Pretenders and The Clash.

But American soul music has proved a more enduring influence, and the Glasgow bands latest album reiterates the point.

The Muscle Shoals Sessions was made in the Alabama city of that name with veteran keyboardist Spooner Oldham. Now 80, Spooner played on many hits including I Never Loved A Man (The Way I Love You) by Aretha Franklin.

This album features reinterpretations of 11 Texas hits and three covers, including Save The Last Dance, originally by The Drifters.

We think the album is a triumph, which is why we’re playing a track from The Muscle Shoals Sessions every hour on our dedicated station.
