THE BIRTH OF THE FIRST SUPERGROUP

Jul 16, 2021

Cream, generally regarded as the world’s first supergroup, were formed in London on July 16th 1966.

The band members were bassist Jack Bruce, guitarist Eric Clapton and drummer Ginger Baker and their star would burn very brightly but fall to earth in a little over two years.

There was no doubting their individual instrumental proficiency and their back catalogue stands alongside the very best. Crossroads, White Room, Badge, Strange Brew and Sunshine of Your Love, to name just a few of their many outstanding recordings, stand the test of time. But tensions between Bruce and Baker led to their decision the break up in 1968.

In 1993 Cream were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and they were also included in both Rolling Stone and VH1’s 100 Greatest Artists Of All Time.

Jack Bruce died in October 2014 and Ginger Baker died in October 2019. Eric Clapton continues to record and perform and also has his own station on Exclusive Radio where you’ll find all of Cream’s greatest recordings.
